WSL 2022 Call-Out for Choreographic Works

Wicklow ScreenDance Laboratory ran a hugely successful online festival in April 2021.  It is with fingers crossed that we look to next year’s Laboratory in 2022.  We are hoping to run live events along with some online ones.

Wicklow ScreenDance Laboratory is an arts forum that is focused on the Art of Dance in its many forms, with particular focus on film and live dance performance, along with training workshops for participants. It is based in Bray, Wicklow, Ireland.

We are seeking submissions from artists for WSL 2022 under three headings:

‘Scratch’ films from first or early filmmakers

Screendance films from established filmmakers

Choreography/dance pieces (solo, duet, trio or small group)

‘Scratch’ films can be short, or up to 10 minutes long – this category is for those who want to get creative: to say something with image and movement.  No previous experience is necessary to apply.  This category is for early or first-attempt films.

Established filmmakers in screendance may apply for the second category.  This is for artists who have made previous dance films: artists with a voice and vision who are invested in screendance as an art form or choreographers who choose to expand their choreographic output via film techniques.  Films can be up to 15 minutes long.

High quality dance pieces, works-in-progress or extracts of longer pieces of choreography are sought for in the third category.  This is for the body as performance vehicle, the dance as a physical expression of the Art. Emerging or established choreographers may apply, with pieces up to 15 minutes in length.  Please note production and staging will be limited, recorded music (if any) will be required.  This section is for artists who are invested in the craft of professional dance.

Deadline for submissions January 7 2022

Festival dates April 12 – 19 2022
