Wicklow ScreenDance - Festival Producer Vacancy


Wicklow ScreenDance Laboratory (WSL) is recruiting a Producer for its yearly festival. This festival is an arts forum that is focused on the Art of Dance in its many forms, with emphasis on choreography, filmmaking, dance for film and live dance performance, along with training workshops for participants. It is based in Bray, Wicklow, Ireland with an Irish and International reach.  It is in existence since 2017 under the Artistic Direction of Dr Adrienne Brown.  For its 2023 programme it is seeking to hire a dedicated and experienced Producer to add to its small but committed team.  This is a fixed-contract employment, part-time, to be reviewed in 2023 and made an annual full-time.

Job Title: Festival Producer

Reporting to: Festival Artistic Director, Dr Adrienne Brown

Responsible for: Producing the 2023 festival, managing budgets, preparing Reports, Funding Applications

Job Description

Reporting to the Festival Artistic Director, the Festival Producer will take lead responsibility for producing the festival programme, including budgeting, line-producing, contracting, venue sourcing and management, production/technical liaison, and engaging venue managers and staff. The Producer will be responsible for building and managing production budgets as devised and agreed with the Director and will also play a role in preparing funding applications for specific projects and in contributing to programming decisions, which are the final responsibility of the Director. 

Key Tasks

Preparing Budgets and Schedules 
Identify Funding Sources 
Making Funding Applications 
Negotiate with artists, co-producers, venues and other parties and finalise financial and operational arrangements for each event, including fees and any other costs including flights, accommodation, per diems, local transfers, technical riders etc, in consultation with the Festival Director
Preparing Contracts and Agreements (Artists, venues, etc) 
Events, Production and Tour Management/logistics
Oversee post-Festival communication with venues
Contributing to medium and long-term strategic planning and decision making
Developing key new strategic partners for 2023
Maintaining Relationships with key stakeholders including: 

• Artists. • Community. • Funding Partners 

Overseeing governance and policies compliance 
Preparing Reports
Excellent organisational skills and the ability to work under pressure to multiple deadlines 
A self-confident and energetic team player capable of working to exacting deadlines with the minimum of supervision

Skills. Experience in: 

Producing arts/festival events, at least three years experience
Budgeting and financial management and reporting
Fundraising and application writing
Project and event management
Risk Management 
A range of relevant software and social media platforms 
Overseeing and line-managing

Knowledge and Abilities

A good knowledge of the contemporary arts and culture sector in terms of relevant policies, funding sources, business and funding models etc. 
Excellent written and spoken English
A familiarity with audience engagement and development techniques 
Ability to build and manage strong professional relationships quickly
Appreciation for the arts and live performance 
A good attention to detail and quality of execution
Ability to react quickly and appropriately to stress situations

About the position Terms and Conditions of Employment 

The role is offered initially as 6-month part-time contract to be reviewed in 2023.  The post will commence in November 2022. Timetable is flexible depending on the need of the project at each stage but will include intense period in the weeks leading up to and including the festival (April).  The person chosen for this role will be self-directed and able to time-manage all aspects of the work needed.  This is a fixed-term contract with a salary of €5000.
