This year Where Dance Meets Street explores collaborative practice and presentation between the art forms of Street and Dance. We are delighted to bring Prodigal UPG to Wexford for a 2-day event where they will perform Zoo Humans and deliver a Masterclass about presenting Dance in public places.
Date: 6-7 May 2023
Venue/Location: National Opera House, High St, Wexford, Y35 FEP3
Cost: €60-€25 for ISACS Members
Registration: Where Dance Meets Street 2023 Tickets
Who is this for?
We invite dance, street and circus artists to attend Zoo Humans on May 6th and participate in the Masterclass on May 7th to explore the practice, creation and presentation of work in public spaces and the democratic nature of Street Arts. Capacity for the Masterclass is limited.
About Zoo Humans & the Masterclass
ZOO HUMANS is a performance-parkour/dance/physical-theatre show for the whole family. Accompanied by an original electronic soundtrack by Chris Umney, featuring Sir David Attenborough’s classic narration (with the blessing of the man himself).
The Masterclass will consist of a first session (2 hours), where participants will be introduced to the movement vocabulary, and then a final session (2 hours), where they will explore outdoor spaces in connection with Dance movement.
About Prodigal UPG
The Urban Playground Team is the original performance-parkour (2PK) company, coining that term to describe their unique blend of dance, street theatre and parkour. Founded in 2005, the UPG Team has taught and performed on 5 continents on 10 occasions for the British Council. The company specialises in pioneering engagement models with at-risk communities of young people and has worked with participants aged 3 – 95.
“From free running to opera, they cover an unusual – perhaps unique – number of bases… whatever Prodigal does is worth seeing” – Irish Independent.
Alister O’Loughlin, the co-founder of the Urban Playground Team, participated in Dance Meet Circus in 2020, where he delivered a TALK on the health of mongrels, boundary processes, glimpsed narratives, and how collaboration beyond arts practice can be the means of liberating ourselves and audiences.
