Open Call: Election to the Dance Ireland board of directors

Dance Ireland AGM, Sunday 29 April 2018

  • One vacancy to be filled from the membership to serve on the board of directors
  • Nominations are now open.

In line with our memo and articles of association, Richard Wakely and Richard Johnson are retiring at the AGM, after serving the maximum term of six years. The board takes this opportunity to most sincerely thank Richard and Richard for their commitment and dedicated service to the organisation.

This means there is a place to be filled from the membership. In line with custom and practice the second place will be filled through co-option by the board at a later date.

The board of directors is a nine-member non-executive board, committed to maintaining a gender, regional and genre representation balance. The composition of the board comprises five positions filled from the membership and four positions filled through co-option. This ensure the board has the expertise and skills necessary to ensure it fulfils its governance responsibilities.

Further information about the board of directors and the Dance Ireland Governance Framework are available from the website: http://www.danceireland.ie/about.

The board of directors issues an open invitation to all members to consider serving on the board.

Nomination and ELECTION PROCESS

Nominations to the board are welcomed from the membership.

The closing date for completed nominations is 5pm on Thursday 26 April.

For nominations: the procedure is simple. One voting member nominates another voting member.

Dance Ireland operates a one member/one vote. An eligible voting member is a member from Associate, Performer/Choreographer, Friend, Organisation and Educational Institute categories. Student members are not eligible to vote.

The nominated member must accept the nomination and give notice in writing by email of his/her intention to go forward for election, and confirm their intention to speak to their nomination at the AGM.  Both nomination and acceptance of nomination must be emailed by 5pm on Thursday 26 April to Chief Executive, Paul Johnson, paul.johnson@danceireland.ie.

At the AGM members will vote on the nomination(s), after the nominees have spoken about why they want to serve on the board. Appointments are made for an initial two years, and directors are eligible to serve up to a maximum of 6 years (3 terms).

Should a voting member not be able to attend the AGM, they may vote by using a proxy form. A proxy form enables the voting member to select their candidate(s) in advance. Proxy voting forms are available on request and will be available once the closing date for nominations has passed, and should by returned no later than 12noon on Sunday 29 April.
