Cork Dance: Initiative Open Call

Cork Dance Initiative (CDI) is an evolving artist-led dance collective in Cork. CDI are delighted to announce four mini-commission opportunities for dance artists who feel a strong connection with Cork (city and/or county) to respond to a series of events with creative documentation in a format of the artists’ choosing. Selected artists will attend CDI’s 2021 summer offering of the series, entitled, In It For The Long Run, and receive a fee of €200.

In It For The Long Run is CDI’s debut public event and will be presented at Cork Midsummer Festival & Uillinn, West Cork Arts Centre this June 2021. It features bite-size dance experiences both in person and virtual over a number of days. Applications are welcome from people based locally, nationally or internationally.

Selected artists will attend In It For The Long Run through one of the following options at a location of their choice:

  • Option 1: Digital Attendance for a Dance Ireland Member: Cork Midsummer Festival (Cork City): Saturday 19th to Sunday 27th June 2021
  • Option 2: In-Person/Digital Attendance: Cork Midsummer Festival (Cork City): Saturday 19th to Sunday 27th June 2021 (In-Person: Saturday 19th, Monday 21st)

  • Option 3: In-Person/Digital Attendance: Uillinn, West Cork Arts Centre (Skibbereen): Tuesday 29th June 2021 (In-Person: Morning, Online: Evening, Tuesday 29th June)
  • Option 4: Digital Attendance:  Uillinn, West Cork Arts Centre (Skibbereen): Tuesday 29th June 2021 (Morning 1hr/Evening 1hr)

ACCESS AND INCLUSION

If you require any additional assistance to apply or attend through this initiative please contact us at corkdanceinitiative@gmail.com and we will do our best to assist you. An application can be made in video or audio recording format responding to the application form.

Criteria for selection includes:

  • you are able to attend all events.
  • you can demonstrate clearly how you will reflect and document your experience
  • you can demonstrate a connection or interest to dance in Cork City and/or County

Please Note: We are interested in the possibility of sharing the creative documentation that arises as part of this mini-commission on our website.  This decision will be made in discussion with the selected applicants.

Applications will be reviewed by Cork Dance Initiative; Lisa Cliffe, Luke Murphy, Siobhán Ní Dhuinnín & Ruairí Ó'Donnabháin and will be selected based on the criteria.  Decisions will be made and communicated by 11 June 2021.
