Audition Notice: Rosin Whelan Dance

Roisin Whelan Dance are looking for Irish based dancers for the upcoming 2021 and 2022 Season.

Due to the pandemic, the audition will be held online via zoom (invitation only).

REQUIREMENTS:

Strong contemporary technique, floor work and performance skills, classical dance skills not essential but desired. Dancers from all backgrounds are welcome to apply. Must be based in Ireland. 

Please state availability for November 15th to 28th 2021. Should you be unavailable this will not affect your ability to work with us in 2022, although we do have a role that we are hiring for in November specifically.

We welcome dancers from all ethnicities and cultural backgrounds.

About Roisin Whelan

Roisin was a recipient of a Dance Ireland Residencies in DanceHouse 2020 and 2021.

Roisin started her training in the Ballet Barn in Carlow under the direction of Aedeen O’Hagan and Adele Mealy. Later she joined the Shawbrook Youth Dance Company and Dublin Youth Dance Company under the direction of Anica Louw and Mariam Ribon. Roisin then spent a year training at the Inchicore College of Further Education under the dance studies umbrella and then auditioned successfully for the Northern School of Contemporary Dance. Roisin completed her Bachelor in Performing Arts, graduating with a first class honours.

Upon graduating Roisin joined Black Box Dance Company (Denmark) as an apprentice for the 2018/2019 season and performed in works by Jason Mabana, Marie Brolin-Tani, Stephanie Thomson/ Thomas Brentin and Tim Rushton, touring across Sweden and Denmark. During this time Roisin also completed her Masters in Performance and graduated with distinction.  Prior to this Roisin performed in 'Ocean' by Jamaal Burkmar (West Yorkshire Playhouse) and was funded by the Irish Arts Council (Carlow) to make a solo work “Memories, with Betty” to be toured across Ireland as part of the Emergence, young choreographers program.

In 2016, Roisin performed in the film “I See His Blood”, Choreographed by Adrienne Brown, Filmography by Eoghan O’Reilly and Music by Robbie Overson. The film was awarded the Audience Choice Award for Best Film and Best Costume at the FAD Festival.  In 2019 Roisin joined Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures professional company for their UK tour of Romeo and Juliet where she performed for seven months in cities across the UK. From October 2019 Roisin joined the company as a dance artist, teaching the companies work to children and adults across the UK . Following this tour Roisin joined Arielle Smith’s Project Dot. for their UK tour of L.O.V.E and in 2020 joined Balbir Singh Dance Company to perform across multiple shows and projects. In 2020 Roisin will be working with Forest Tribe Dance Theatre and Jon Beney of Ten Foot Dance Company on research and development for their new shows. Roisin will also be pursuing her own choreography this year with a research and development phase in Dance Ireland and Shawbrook.
