Percussive Dance Masterclass - with Darrah Carr Dance

Join New York City's own Bessie-Award nominated company, Darrah Carr Dance, for an exciting Percussive Dance Masterclass!

Following a full-body warm-up, the class will explore a fusion of tap dance, Irish step, and body percussion.  Participants will learn excerpts of Darrah Carr Dance's repertory in the company's signature style of ModERIN - a unique blend of traditional Irish step and contemporary modern dance.  As a special highlight, the class will feature lightning-fast demonstrations by company member Trent Kowalik, the TONY Award winning star of Broadway's Billy Elliot.  All experience levels welcome.  Tap shoes or Irish hard shoes are recommended, but any hard-soled street shoe will work.

This workshop forms part of Dancer from the Dance: Festival of Irish Choreography, a new festival happening in New York’s 92nd Street Y and in Dublin at Project Arts Centre and Dance Ireland, curated by John Scott, Artistic Director of Irish Modern Dance Theatre. The festival focuses on Irish choreographers, both from Ireland and from the US, representing a wide perspective on modern Irish identity and varying influences on Irish dance, from traditional to contemporary.

Festival performances take place in Project Arts Centre on 2 & 3 July with choreography by Oona Doherty, Mary Nunan, Darrah Carr, Dylan Quinn, Liam O Scanláin, Mufutau Yusuf, Aoife McAtamney, Justine Doswell and John Scott.

Celebrating the vibrancy and diversity of Irish choreography, Dancer from the Dance is a partnership between Irish Modern Dance Theatre, Project Arts Centre, Dance Ireland, and 92nd Street Y and Irish Arts Center, New York.
