Each class consists of a 1 hour Feldenkrais ‘Awareness through Movement’ lesson, working on improving general body / self-awareness, movement quality, and optimal body use. Movements are performed slowly, in order to listen to your body while discovering new possibilities for moving with ease.

Each lesson focuses on exploring new possibilities for coordinating yourself that eliminate strain, and improve ease, power, and support.  Working at your own pace, level of ability and comfort, you learn to recognise unconscious counter-productive patterns of muscular activity, and to develop more effective alternatives.

About Abbe

Abbe has been working as a movement / somatic educator since 1998, and has teaching qualifications in Feldenkrais Method, Pilates and classical ballet.

She was introduced to Feldenkrais in 2001, while studying dance, and trained in the Method from 2005-2008 in Amsterdam.

Abbe teaches Individual lessons, classes and workshops in Dublin and in Killarney, Co. Kerry, working with people with diverse needs, from back pain, movement and postural difficulties, to refining performance in sports and the arts.

Abbe is a certified Feldenkrais practitioner, and member of the Feldenkrais Guild U.K, and Feldenkrais Ireland.

Practical Information

What is the format?  This class takes place primarily lying on the floor and moving slowly and is not exercise-based.

What to wear? Loose, warm, comfortable clothing, and socks.  Dress warmly, you may feel cool due to the pace of the class.
What to bring? You may wish to bring your own mat and cushions.  Dance Ireland have a limited number available to borrow if you do not have your own.
Who is it for? Suitable for dancers and non-dancers of all levels who are interested in focusing on posture and alignment through the Feldenkrais Method.  Abbe offers a friendly and accessible class which is open to all levels.

About the Weekly Wellness Class

This class is under the umbrella of our Healthier Dancer programme, promoting a year round focus for dancers on their physical and mental well-being.  Each four week block sees a different type of class and while they are aimed at dancers, all are welcome.
