Leah Mullen is a composer, vocalist, and conductor, whose work focuses on intersectional feminist philosophies, diverse storytelling, the wilderness, and interpersonal performer relationships. She recently received her Master's in Music and Culture (2023) at the University College Dublin in Dublin Ireland, where she was named a Global Excellence Scholar. She is likewise a recent graduate of the Pennsylvania State University (2022), where she completed a Bachelor of Music in music composition, minor in German, and diversity studies certificate. At Penn State she studied with Dr. Baljinder Sekhon and Dr. Sarah Genevieve Burghart Rice. Currently, Leah is a composer/performer for Parallel Arts and the Avani Collective in Dublin.
She is also the Musical Director of Glória LGBT+ Choir, teaches music theory at UCD, along with private voice and piano lessons in Dublin. Leah has experience writing for a variety of instrumentations and ensembles, including electronics. Her works have been performed across the United States and Europe. Some of Leah’s most recent commissions include: here, now, a chamber ensemble work for CORVUS through the Composing in the Wilderness program, Advice To A Girl, a choral work for the Penn State Concert Choir, and It’s a Gift, a tuba and piano piece for Dan Burdick’s The Gay Tuba Songbook project. Some other ensembles Leah has written for include: loadbang, Transient Canvas, HUB New Music, Ensemble ICC, and Duo Zonda. Leah is a regular collaborator in opera, theatre, and dance.
She has been commissioned by Subhashini Goda (dancer), Shaéirah (theatre), Chelsea Opera (opera company), and Frederick D. Miller (playwright). Leah was named a winner of the 2023 West Cork Young Composers Competition (Ireland) for her string quartet, The Hartford, 1894. Parvathi Jayaram is a dancer and choreographer specialising in Mohiniyattam, a graceful Indian classical dance form from South India. Following the repertoire of Guru Padmashri Bharati Shivaji, Parvathi boasts over a decade of experience performing and teaching Mohiniyattam. Her artistic journey has spanned continents, with performances and workshops in India and now, Dublin, Ireland. Parvathi's artistic curiosity extends beyond tradition. She's actively exploring how Mohiniyattam can intersect with contemporary theatre, pushing boundaries and creating innovative performance experiences. Dedicated to inclusivity, she's also passionate about developing a welcoming and accessible pedagogy for Mohiniyattam training in Ireland. Parvathi's dedication to her craft is evident in her extensive training. She received comprehensive Bharatanatyam training under Smt. Kalamandalam Girija and Smt. Suma Shyamalan between 2000 and 2012. Since 2014, she has honed her Mohiniyattam skills under the guidance of Smt. Shruthi KP and currently studies under Smt. Vinaya Narayanan. Her artistic growth has further expanded with Indian theatre training under Guru Venu G in "Navarasa Sadhana" (2023) and Abhyas Somatics for Abhinaya training with Navtej Johar (2024). Parvathi's experience extends beyond the stage. From January 2015 to May 2023, she served as a Mohiniyattam performer, along with administrative and event coordination roles, at Samarpana Mohiniyattam Kalari in Bangalore, India. Parvathi's captivating performances showcase her artistry and passion. She recently presented "da.da.da" at the Scene and Heard Festival in Dublin as part of Avani Collective (February 2024). Her solo Mohiniyattam presentations include the IADNAM Conference in Sligo (October 2023) and Culture Night Dublin (September 2023). She has also participated in the “Routes beyond Roots” Symposium for Indian Performing Arts organised by UCD School of music and presented “Padmashri Bharati Shivaji’s Mohiniyattam: Innovations, Collaborations and Global Outreach”. She has also participated in group and solo dance productions in India (2017-2023). Parvathi Jayaram also co-founded Parallel Arts in 2024. She is also the founder and the artistic director of Idhayā, Haven for Performing Arts(est. 2024) and conducts Mohiniyattam online and offline classes in Ireland.
