Deirdre Grant is the receipient of a DI residency award- she wishes to offer an open invitation for dance artists/dance creatives to join her for an afternoon of self – care & dance exploration. Deirdre will share her somatic-based performance & dance-making processes involved in the making of her upcoming book and blogsite ‘Prompts For The Mover’ in the context of her own recent experiences of illness with cancer.

This physical workshop & subject matter explored, may be of interest to dedicated professional artists who are looking for ways to rethink, re discover and challenge their practice due to long- or short-term medical conditions, injuries, recovery from long covid or chronic fatigue or just artists wishing to work more holistically in performance & dance making contexts.

More About Deirdre Grant

Originally a Wexford native, Deirdre Grant graduated from Middlesex University, London with a BA (Hons)Dance degree in 1993. In 2008, Deirdre retrained in Somatic Dance Education with Joan Davis, Maya Lila and later with Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen (BMC). Deirdre was Dance Artist in Residence at Garter Lane Arts Centre (2017-2022) and co-founder of Myriad Dance (1999-2013). She also is an Associate Lecturer in Dance & Theatre at SETU Waterford, working with both Department of Arts and also the Department of Social Care & Early Childhood Studies.  

Deirdre is a committed dance advocate for the development and growth of contemporary dance practice in Ireland. In her freelance capacity, she has worked extensively with Arts Offices in Co Mayo, Carlow, Waterford, Wexford, Wicklow and Leitrim Local Authorities, developing & devising several large-scale contemporary dance performance projects & events for professional dancers, youth dancers, older people’s health & young people with additional needs.
