What we carry and what we remember

DOLMEN is a research performance, sharing the first harvest of a new dance project by Vivian Brodie Hayes. This work examines and contemplates what we carry with us through our life and what we remember, considering the emotional and embodied stories of our daily life and our past.
DOLMEN is still in development and we are very excited to present it to the dance community at DanceHouse as part of Dance Ireland New Movements.

The movement research for DOLMEN was developed with dancers Sorcha O'Connor and Caroline Lawless. Music created by composer Liam Bates and performed by Musici Ireland string trio, Beth McNinch, David O'Doherty, Siobhan Lynch.

Vivian began this research through the generous support of a Dance Ireland Residency in June, working specifically with the physical weight of carrying and personal memory. She then continued around County Wexford, spending time at sites of remembrance and reflection, holy wells, grottos, old graveyards and ruins; considering personal and communal history, weight of emotion, memory and prayer.

The first informal research sharings were in County Wexford, to an invited audience from the local community, in distinct spaces, outdoors in a park and indoors in an intimate former convent chapel theatre space.

This work is kindly funded by the Arts Council, Wexford County Council Arts Department, with support from the National Opera House, Artlinks and Dance Ireland.
