'Her-acre'
Choreography, dramaturgy and performance: Julie Lockett
Dramaturgy and direction: Jason Byrne
‘Her-acre’ is the culmination of my dance practice over the last 3 years on the Ecovillage land in Cloughjordan, Co. Tipperary. The work is imbued with themes of the global poly-crisis and explores these via the microcosm of one woman ‘Her-acre’ our heroine.
I have been researching and experimenting with ways of synthesising the experience of working with the land, ie. working in different weather conditions, sometimes barefoot, building tolerance to different temperatures, working in a space bounded by trees instead of walls, with a soundscape of biodiversity along with my neighbours and farmers working and moving about the land. I have brought the resulting material into the studio and translated this material into a theatrical experience which can be performed in a sheltered setting, ie a studio, theatre, hall.
Supported by The Arts Council, Dance Ireland, Instant Dissidence, Dance Limerick, Cloughjordan Community Farm, Cloughjordan Arts.
