Our Healthier Dancer Days this year invite you to take some time out to tune in to the needs of the dancing body and mind.  The programme is dedicated to the unique and unprecedented challenges for dancers at this time with in depth sessions on yoga for dancers, somatics in action, mindful practice, supplementary training and conditioning, and advocating for your needs. The workshops offer information and techniques to take into your training and practice and support you to navigate the months ahead.

Somatics in Action 2
with Lauren Kearns

The global pandemic has uprooted our daily lives, our art, and how we move through the world, literally and metaphorically.
Returning to the Body and Reconnecting as Mindful Movers invites dancers to reengage with their body and mind’s inner wisdom, not only in quiet moments of reflection, but also in the very active moments of moving, dancing, and creating.

The two-day workshop is movement based and experiential.
Dancers will engage with the material on a kinesthetic and intellectual level and reflect on their experience through prompts and journal writing.

Part I of the workshop (10 Nov) will focus on: mindfulness techniques for movers; body scanning and breath connection; pelvis alignment, activation, and hip rotation; and core engagement.
Part II of the workshop (11 Nov) will focus on: mindfulness techniques for movers; abductor and adductor engagement; hamstring and gluteal strength; psoas flexion and extension; and cross-lateral fluidity and full-body connection. Dancers are welcome to participate in either one or both workshop days.
