Process and Progress

Following on from the Dramaturgy Lab in October 2020, Dance Ireland continues its work with renowned Dramaturg Peggy Olislaegers.

Encouraging curiosity, practicing a change of perspective, and gathering a deeper understanding of both personal and general mechanisms in the practice of dance making are key to dramaturgy.

In this Lab we focus on process dramaturgy, reflecting upon the different processes active in the making of a choreography. We will focus on the different dialogues and relationships built within this process, both with artistic collaborators, producers, future presenters and audiences.

This interactive workshop will provide a deep exploration of what is at play in both creating and presenting dance works. The workshop will examine the personal signature of the artist, and discuss the language and images used to talk about the work in its different development stages. An important focus is the variety of possible collaborations with dancers, other artists, communities and presenters seen in dance practices today. We will explore the ecology in which dance is created, and how this is in dialogue with how work is made and finally presented.

Participants are invited to explore and gain insight into the processes they use to make work, and develop dramaturgical tools to bring into their artistic process.

There are 10 places available for Dance Ireland Members on the workshop, and we invite expressions of interest from early and mid-career dance artists who are open to taking part in this process and collaborating with peers.

Complete expression of interest here by 12pm, 26 February 2021
