DI Residency: Regan O’Brien
- Mon 28 May 2018 - Fri 8 Jun 2018
- 10:00 - 18:00
Regan will be in residence for two weeks continuing her research and development process on a new work, Bounding.
Bounding is a live, science-fiction performance project with a strong inter-disciplinary thrust between dance, installation, music and social choreography.
Bounding is a play-able, performance essay/choreography which O’Brien was commissioned to write by the Folkswang University of Art (Germany) and was published by
Passagen Verlag Press in 2017. O’Brien’s essay focuses on the embodied experience of performance from the perspective
of a new Mother's body. It is included in a collection of essays on Transdisciplinary Design edited by computer scientist and author Alan N. Shapiro.
There are four aspects to the main character and each of them are played by different art forms. In this story, the action should take place inside the mother’s body or more realistically within her externalised psychic womb-space.
Bounding ignites at the confluence of song, water, video, remote telepresence, entanglement, and a vast experimental space alive in the act of absent-present body-writing of a non-dualistic transdisciplinary nomadic-earthling manifesto.
Regan has received support from MAM (Mothers Artists Makers) and Daughters of Charity Family Services in preparation for this residency.
