A mixed bill of new and recent works by artists based in Ireland
DDF is delighted to present the Originate programme as part of the 2023 Edition. With extracts from recent choreographies and new works-in-development, the Originate – Performance Showcase is a valuable platform for artists, and an exciting opportunity for audiences and programmers to experience works that are ready to be toured or pieces in their early stages of development.
This year’s showcase will include:
Magdalena Hylak
A DANCE
This site-specific, non-narrative and improvised performance invites the audience to a new form of ritual made from repetition, high physicality, loudness, sound glitches and noises. Conceived as a short and powerful proposal preferably for an unconventional space, A DANCE explores the relationships and tensions between public-personal, inside-outside and visible-invisible.
Mufatau Yusuf
Impasse (working title)
Impasse explores the diasporic experience, particularly the black African diaspora. It questions what it means to be a diasporic entity, how one inhabits spaces in which their existence is not clearly marked, and how memory becomes critical to identity. It’s also an attempt to understand the nuances and complexities around the autonomy of black bodies.
Jessie Thompson
CRAWLER
This solo dance work by Jessie Thompson is a collaboration with musician Jason McNamara. Their wavering connection narrates the performance - marrying Jessie’s experimental movement style, which draws from contemporary, hip hop and house dance, with Jason’s drumkit, synthesiser and unique selection of instruments. A journey of chaos, calm and adrenaline, with improvisation at its core.
