- Maria Nilsson Waller
Class will start with attention being given to correct alignment of the skeleton to achieve greater freedom and mobility in joints and muscular systems, aiming for a healthy and sustainable use of the body. Maria’s class aims to meet the multiple, individual needs of today’s independent dancer. With a solid background in various contemporary styles, classical ballet and yoga, influences from a range of techniques appear in her class.
Making use of gravity, the different physical dynamics of the body, our minds presence, imagination and musical interaction, Maria’s class offers a structure where the dancer’s strive for artistic expression, musicality, physical virtuosity and daily maintenance goes hand in hand. The class combines choreographed and improvised exercises and wishes to function not only as a place for dancers to prepare and develop body and mind before a workday rehearsal but also as a way to connect and exchange artistic ideas within the community of dance artists in the periods between jobs.
Swedish born Maria Nilsson Waller is a freelance dancer, choreographer and teacher based in Dublin, Ireland. Her choreographic work is presented at various festivals and venues around Europe and has been described as poetry from the lingonberry forest, idiosyncratic, pure and entirely mesmerising. Maria is a Dance Ireland Associate Artist and a HATCH Award recipient.
