Lucia Kickham

Lucia teaches a class that takes Flying Low as a base and incorporates it with other floor oriented techniques and with release work. The class builds from gentle exercises which examine the spiral patterns within the body and it develops into more energetic and expansive sequences. We will concentrate on pathways and use of energy as opposed to strict forms. Groundedness, efficiency of movement, open awareness and group dynamics are important elements at play in this class.

Lucia Kickham is a Co.Wexford based dance artist (performer - teacher - maker) performing and collaborating internationally since 2011. Trained in the Netherlands she has worked with companies and artists which include Liz Roche Company, Company Philip Connaughton, Junk Ensemble, Jessie Keenan + Tonnta, Maria Nilsson Waller, Luke Murphy, Mary Wycherly, TRASH(NL) and Oonagh Kearney.

Training intensively with David Zambrano in Flying Low and Passing Through techniques, Lucia has developed her interest in group dynamics within improvisation, composition and teaching environments. She has received coaching from Rosalind Crisp in choreographic improvisation and is invested in this line of inquiry. Lucia is a guest tutor at IWAMD at University of Limerick and regularly leads workshops at dance centres across Ireland. She is a mentor on the Noise Moves Emergence programme for young dance-makers.

In recent years Lucia has been a recipient of awards from Dance Ireland, Tyrone Guthrie Centre, Tipperary Dance and the Arts Council of Ireland, including the Next Generation and Commission Awards.

Lucia's work INIT: The Warm Up Project was presented as part of the Dublin Dance Festival First Looks programme and premiered at Dublin Fringe Festival 2019. She presented two new works in 2021, SOLO-ing and Middle End Beginning exploring the idea of powerful softness. This is a continuing topic of research within her practice.

Lucia was Dance Ireland HATCH Artist 2018 and Associate Artist with Liz Roche Company 2018/21. In 2022 she took the role of rehearsal director with Step Up Dance Project, a development programme for early-career professional dancers.

DanceHouse Protocols

Please note the following measures have been put in place for the well being of all who use DanceHouse.
Collectively, we will find a new rhythm for interacting while ensuring we follow best practice in keeping ourselves and others safe as we move in the studio space.

  • While changing rooms and showers are available for use by those who need them, we do encourage everyone to arrive in the clothes needed for practice, whenever possible.
  • Each group or class entering DanceHouse has a specific time to do so, 15 minutes before their class starts.
This is done to minimise crossover between groups entering and leaving, keep the flow in the building and to prevent clusters of people in the foyer and stairs.
Unfortunately, you cannot come earlier than above to keep the number of people at the safest level.
All participants must leave the studio promptly after class – time for cool down will be part of the class and there will not be additional time in the studio after class for this.
These times are scheduled to limit the crossover of people entering and leaving.
  • Please read the full protocols HERE
