Co-Motion will bring together dance practitioners, researchers, educators, policy makers and supporters to create a platform for putting thought into motion about how we move together.
Considering the artist as citizen, the conference will bring critical attention to complexities of interrelations in this time of precarity and flux. If a renewed hardening of borders threatens division and stasis, how does dance function as a site of connection and movement? How can dance question, confirm and strengthen ongoing currents of fluidity, support and Co-Motion?
Join us for two days of keynotes, workshops, film screenings, panel discussions, roundtables, presentations and wrap up each evening with the opportunity to experience stunning work from (La) Horde Ta Da Bone on Friday at the Grand Opera House and Shobana Jeyasingh Dance Staging Schiele on Saturday at The Mac.
The conference will be jointly launched by Andrews Hurst, Chief Executive, One Dance UK and the conference curator Dr Aoife McGrath, Queens University Belfast.
Events on Friday include the screening of Zweiland (Sasha Waltz & Guests) followed by a workshop with company members Juan Kruz Diaz de Garaio Esnaola & Luc Dunberry. Other workshops that day will be led by Bernadette Divilly and Noeleen McGrath. The keynote is from internationally renowned dance maker Shobana Jeyasingh, and afternoon roundtables: Dancing with Political Borders and Tackling Borders within the Dance Industry featuring an array of contributors including Anita Clarke (The Work Room, Glasgow), Steven Brett (British Council), and Sheila Creevey (Pavilion Dance South West).
On Saturday the keynote speaker will be the inspirational Fearghus Ó Conchúir (National Dance Company Wales), with a workshop from Sheila Creevey (Surf the Wave), film screenings from Áine Stapleton (Horrible Creature) and Croí Glan Integrated Dance Company, and throughout the day unique presentations from Eileen McClory, Suzanne McCreight and Mayte Segura. Panels and roundtables again feature a strong line-up of contributors, including Dr Rachel Sweeney (Liverpool Hope University), Dr Eimir McGrath, David Smith, Dr Paula Guzzanti, Lisa McLoughlin, Dr Jenny Roche (University of Limerick), Beatrice Jarvis and Valerie Behan (Culture Ireland), among others.
