Anna will lead a contemporary Cunningham-based class.
Starting with gentle floor exercises to standing, the class will bring awareness to the mobility of the spine, clarity of placement, coordination and availability of the entire body.~
Technically we will try to reinforce our stability, improving our range of motion and working on rhythms. We will end the class with some small combinations, all possible to do within a small space. We will work on internal sensations as well as trying to connect to the space around us and reaching out through the walls!
Anna Chirescu trained at the Paris Conservatory and was an exchange student at UC Irvine USA. She has worked in France and abroad for different companies such as Jean-Claude Gallotta, Luc Petton, Marie-Laure Agrapart, Dance Theater Luxembourg, Liam Warren, Bill Young and Colleen Thomas and Ashley Chen. She was a member of the CNDC Company directed by Robert Swinston between 2013 and 2020. She performed Merce Cunningham works and participated in the centennial celebration. She has been making her own work as a choreographer since 2017. Anna also holds Masters degrees in Modern Literature and Cultural Affairs from the Sorbonne and Sciences Po Universities.
Dancer from the Dance
This class forms part of Irish Modern Dance Theatre's Dancer From The Dance: Festival of Irish Choreography
Curated by revered Irish choreographer John Scott, the festival crosses many national borders, practices, ethnicities and generations. This 3rd edition connects live performance with the incredibly visual artform of dance films and live-streaming, and honours the diversity of Irish choreography from the four corners of the world. The Festival will celebrate live dance, dance films and new works in progress, as well as traditional Irish Céilí dancing.
Dancer From The Dance draws national and international attention to Irish choreographers north and south of the border and from the greater Irish diaspora. Following huge critical success in New York and at home in Dublin in 2019, and last year in 2020, the festival in 2021 aims to celebrate age, gender and the ethnic diversity of Irish dance artists.
DANCER FROM THE DANCE 2021: In collaboration with Dance Ireland, Project Arts Centre, Dance Limerick, Irish Arts Center (New York), Smock Alley Theatre, OntheBoards & Centre Culturel Irlandais
Funders: The Arts Council of Ireland and Dublin City Council.
