Equality, Diversity & Inclusion

Dance Ireland are proud to release our EDI policy and plans for our strategy going forward in 2022. The organisation has spent significant time identifying how we can authentically commit to change, and to ensure equality of access, diversity of participation, and a broad geographic reach in our programmes. The policy and strategy were developed in consultation with Mercy Nabirye of Kauma Arts, and with the support of the artists we have invited to lead us in curating programmes and projects that opened up the conversation.

This policy also shares the three principles that will inform our next strategy development period commencing later this year: Sustainability, Interdependence, and Inclusion.

This is a live, work in progress document. We have a long way to go to achieve our vision for equality, diversity, and inclusion in our organisation. Working with our Members, the wider arts and cultural community, the public and other stakeholders, we will continue to invest, to learn, and to act.

Over the past few months, we have had the pleasure of meeting dance artists who have recently arrived from Ukraine and are looking for connection and support as they settle in Ireland. It is important that, as a dance community, we make space to welcome artists who have been displaced, who may need support and refuge, a means of reflecting and responding to their experience, and to feel safe.
