Annique van Niekerk
Professional

Annique van Niekerk is a Dublin based multi-disciplinary artist with a diverse background in aerial dance and choreography, visual art, design and music production. She has turned her focus to making immersive performances which consider deeply the intersections of contemporary sculpture, dance and circus using live generated soundscapes. Her work is concerned with materiality, deep ecology, and the mysterious spaces between inner and outer worlds of the artist and their audience. Creating holistic and engaging experiences for Irish audiences, which awaken all senses is of utmost importance in her practice. She holds a BDes in Fashion Design, BA in History of Art & Design from the National College of Art and Design, Postgraduate qualification in Cultural and Creative Entrepreneurship from Trinity College Dublin, and has studied music production with Pulse College Windmill Lane.

Annique has many years of experience working closely with Emily Aoibheann who has had significant influence on her artistic work and movement practice. Annique’s recent foray into performance making and directing is supported by the Arts Council (2023) and Fingal Arts Office (2023). Annique has performed as a dancer and aerialist in The Dublin Fringe, BetaFest, Electric Picnic, Longitude, and various festivals around Ireland, as well as specially commissioned works in performance, video and visual art.
