Dance Artist Rita Marcalo has been announced as the recipient of the Create and Sirius Arts Centre Artist Residency Award. She is also showcasing work for Culture Night 2020, in Cloughjordan in Tipperary. Dublin Fringe Festival Pilot Light Edition 2020 is here! You can catch Croi Glan's aerial dance theatre show, Tilt- featuring Tara Brandel, Oran Leong & Nicholas Nwusu. For younger audiences, United Fall/Emma Martin have a production called BirdBoy, feat dancer Kévin Coquelard. Isabella Oberländer willl take part in a development residency- 'Artist at Work'- during the festival.
Dance Film Maker Ingrid Nachstern's short film 'Shoe Horn/Office' recently won Best Experimental Film at Venice Shorts. Congratulations to Ingrid and her creative team, including dancer Millie Daniel Dempsey. Another film by Ingrid- 'Table Manners/Stopping at Red Lights' was a finalist at the Veniice Film Awards, featuring dancer Lucia Kickham. We are delighted to hear the news that Lucia Kickham, an established dance artist in the community, has been awarded the Arts Council's Next Generation Award. We look forward to seeing what comes next for Lucia!
Dance Artist & Choreographer Philip Connaughton is collaborating with visual artist Marie Brett as part of IMMA's invited artists pop-up events in The People's Pavilion; it is a cross-medium art piece exploring how issues of capacity, autonomy and dementia care-giving are raising dilemmas amid Ireland’s new capacity legislation. Step Up Dance Project 2020 has kicked off- this yearly intensive programme for pre-professional dancers features a range of DI Members this year: Nick Nickolau, Hannah Rogerson & Niamh O'Flannagain. The mentors and creatives on the project include: Luke Murphy, Aoife McAtamney and Laura Macken.
