Some thoughts from last year’s recipients:

‘It was amazing to get the opportunity to receive a scholarship for the workshops and go to the dance film festival down in Limerick. Without it I would have not been able to meet the wonderful people at the festival and engage with the artwork that was on display. As an artist it is important to keep learning by doing workshops and going to see artworks but financially this can be a struggle this is why receiving a scholarship from Dance Ireland can be a great opportunity to open new horizons.’

‘It was a wonderful learning experience to intensely consider screen dance and meet members of this community from Ireland and abroad. It was my first time formally learning about film so the Lab gave me a technical insight, terminology and perspective that will greatly enrich my film work and collaborations with composers and D.O.Ps in particular.  Many thanks for this great opportunity! I soaked it all up!’

‘I was incredibly fortunate to be a recipient of a Dance Ireland scholarship in order to attend Light Moves Screendance Lab in November. I found the experience beneficial to my continuing development of working with film in dance. Shelley Love covered the introduction to screendance and went on to practical experimentations in making a short dance film and Michael Fleming spoke in detail about composition in film. Without the scholarship I would not have been able to attend the Lab and am grateful for the opportunity. I am making a short dance film with a film director in 2017 and this recent knowledge will be valuable’
