The Cuban technique has been instrumental in launching the careers of many ballet stars of the world: Carlos Acosta (Royal Ballet), Jose Manuel Carreño (American Ballet Theatre), and Alica Alonso (Prima Ballerina of the National Ballet of Cuba), among many others. As a graduated dancer and certified teacher of the National Ballet School of Cuba, Richard d’Alton’s class is ideal for dancers looking to maintain and enhance their technique in an quick moving environment. Attention to detail and artistry combined with practical corrections allow for the dancer to feel inspired and motivated throughout the entire class.
ABOUT RICHARD D'ALTON
Born in Cork, Ireland Richard d’Alton graduated from the National Ballet School of Cuba. He won a Bronze & Silver Medal, respectively, in the 1998 & 1999 International Ballet Competition’s in Havana, Cuba. Upon graduation, Mr. d’Alton joined the National Ballet of Cuba and subsequently was a Principal Dancer with Orlando Ballet, under the artistic direction of famed dancer Fernando Bujones. Among the roles he has performed: Basilio in Don Quixote, Franz in Coppelia, Albrecht in Giselle, Alain in La Fille Mal Gardee, Lucien in Paquita, Cavalier in The Nutcracker, George Balanchine's Tchaikovsky Pas de Deux, Ben Stevenson's Harlequinade, August Bournonville's Flower Festival in Genzano, Le Corsaire, La Esmeralda, Merchant and the Slave, Flames of Paris, Minkus Pas de Trois, Le Talisman, La Vivandiere Pas de Six, and Grand Pas Classique. He has also danced contemporary works by choreographers including Glen Tetley, Robert North, Alberto Mendez, Alberto Alonso, Gustavo Herrera and Fernando Bujones, among many others.
As a choreographer, Mr d’Alton has been awarded Outstanding Choreographer for the Youth America Grand Prix (2004,2005,2006). He has created works for Teatrul de Balet Sibiu, Romania and for the 5th Sibiu International Ballet Competition. For the past two seasons he has also been an Official Choreographer for the V and VI International Dance Competition’s in Barcelona, Spain.
OveR the past five seasons, Mr. d’Alton has maintained an extensive guest-teaching career that includes: The Royal Ballet School (Covent Garden), the Vienna State Opera Ballet, the Norwegian National Ballet School, Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet, and the Dresden Semperoper Ballett. Since 2012 he has been a Guest Ballet Master with both the Lithuanian National Opera & Ballet Theatre and the Czech National Ballet. From 2006 to 2015, he was Artistic Director and Principal Choreographer of International Ballet of Houston (USA). In December 2015 he taught class for the ‘Jurgita Dronina & Friends Gala’ in Vinius which included Principal Dancers from La Scala Milan, The Royal Ballet, New York City Ballet, and the English National Ballet. In February of this coming year, Mr. d’Alton will be a Judge at the 2016 International Dance Competition in Florence, Italy. Currently residing in Ireland, he provides Classical & Contemporary training in both Dublin and Galway.
