About Lucia's Class
Lucia teaches a class that takes Flying Low as a base and incorporates it with other floor oriented techniques and with release work. The class builds from gentle exercises which examine the spiral patterns within the body and it develops into more energetic and expansive sequences. We will concentrate on pathways and use of energy as opposed to strict forms. Groundedness, efficiency of movement, open awareness and group dynamics are important elements at play in this class.
Lucia is very interested in looking at how we prepare our bodies and minds to engage and warm up and so aims to give a well-rounded and focused class while also allowing for lots of enjoyment of movement.
Lucia is a Dublin-based dance artist performing and collaborating internationally since 2011. Trained in The Netherlands, she has worked with many internationally acclaimed choreographers including Dutch company TRASH, Liz Roche Company, John Jasperse, Philip Connaughton, Maria Nilsson Waller, junk ensemble, Filip van Huffel, Ciotóg, Java Dance NZ, Nightstar Dance Company, Catherine Young and Laura Murphy. Lucia has performed in Dublin Dance Festival, Belfast Theatre Festival, Edinburgh Fringe and toured throughout the UK, Sweden and The Netherlands. Lucia has received the Dance Ireland Mentored Residency Award, a commission for a one-minute dance film as part of the Dance Ireland 21 Year Programme and was the recipient of the 2015 Tyrone Guthrie/Firkin Crane residency award. Her first full-length work On.Pulse. premiered in March 2017, supported by the Arts Council.
Having had a keen interest in contemporary dance floorwork for many years, Lucia traveled to Thailand in 2016 to undergo an intensive training course with David Zambrano, founder of the Flying Low and Passing Through techniques. This, in combination with the performance experience she has accumulated, and her training in the traditional Japanese Martial Art Bujinkan have greatly influenced her approach to efficiency of movement within dance.
