Modul-Dance/European Dance House Network: Open call
The project:Dance Ireland is a member of the European Dance House Network and partner in the exciting new Modul-Dance programme, 2010 to 2013. This pan-European project involves 18 other dance houses and organisations and will commence later this year. The objective of Modul-Dance is to work towards how best to assist independent dance artists achieve their ambitions - encouraging risk-taking, innovation and culturally diverse practice - and concurrently develop new audiences for dance, in a sustainable and responsible manner.
Modul-Dance's aims are to responsibly facilitate the mobility of independent dance artists internationally; to design a flexible and sustainable framework in providing the optimum conditions necessary for independent professional dance artists to create, produce and present the best possible (innovative, and culturally diverse) dance.
Through Modul-Dance, several artists (selected by the partners) will have access to dance facilities in different parts of Europe with the aim of developing a self-sufficient artistic career. It is anticipated that these multiple, cumulative experiences will enrich the artists professional development and ultimately benefit and enhance their work at home.
The modular system:
A significant determinant of artistic quality is the length of time required for the careful preparation in accomplishing different phases of the process of creation (reflection, research, try out, finding the most appropriate: collaborators; place to première and, promoters of the work).
The supports will be principally organised within a 2 to 4 modules support structure: research - residency - production - presentation. The partners offer these modules based on a dialogue between the partners and the artist in order to use the offered facilities of these different joint organisations to the best for their artistic development and their career.
The application process:
This modular system is specially developed for emerging artists some of whom may already have a track record nationally, or in their own region, and are now beginning to attain recognition at European level.
The basic criteria for selection of artists participating in the Modul-Dance project are:
* Nominated artists should show documented evidence of previous work;
* Being part of the Modul-Dance project should make a meaningful difference to the artist's career;
* Artists should be prepared to research and develop a new work idea through their participation;
* Artists should show a clear commitment to participating for the duration of their involvement (in some instances for a period of up to 2 years, exact details to be agreed with the selected artist).
Dance Ireland wishes to hear from Dance Ireland professional members interested in being shortlisted for consideration. It is our aim to faciliate one Irish based dance artist for the period 2010-2011. Final selection will be made collectively by the Modul-Dance members in June.
