FONTYS AUDITION PROCEDURE
Students wishing to attend Fontys Dance Academy need to pass three rounds of auditions. This year, the three rounds will be held in Dublin. So Irish candidates will not have to come to Tilburg for the 2nd and 3rd round. During the audition the candidates are observed while attending a number of classes. Candidates’ physical possibilities, creativity, the way they deal with the material/tasks presented, their presence and the way they succeed in creating a personal interpretation forms the main part of the criteria. Talent and mentality are the keywords.
Fontys Dance Academy are looking for driven, interesting artists, with a strong personality and physicality who want to shape the future field of dance and performance.
Four-year Bachelor in Contemporary Urban and Dance Theatre Performance
In the professional field of the contemporary dance artist, the division between classical dance, modern dance, contemporary dance and dance trends, and also that between dance, theatre and visual art has become less and less distinct. The contemporary dance maker combines various dance styles and tries to find his own language of movement. The major Theatre Dance Performance offers talented young people the possibility to develop at a higher vocational level into professional dancers. Within this program, students can choose their own route (graduation profile), dependent on their talents, affinity and skills, with personal accents. A route that leads to starting qualifications for one of the following professional fields: Dance Theatre / Modern; Contemporary Urban.
The graduation profiles Contemporary Urban and Dance Theatre/Modern train dancers for contemporary dance performances, multidisciplinary theatre, and theatre on location. The basis of these profile aimed programs lies in both the technical skills of the academic dance forms and in the contemporary dance forms and styles. In the Contemporary Urban program we offer our students both authentic and popular Hip hop dance styles (contemporary African, Indian and other Urban styles). Besides the additional classes dance theatre and modern (Limòn, Cunningham), the program Dance Theatre / Modern offers floor work dance, improvisation and Instant composition. These subjects are also taught in the Urban profile. The program comprises also: composition/choreography, performance techniques, dramaturgy, theatre design and lighting and history of culture and dance. From the third year on, the Dance Academy offers you the possibility to supplement and deepen your major by choosing at least one minor from the four that have been developed for art students, or from the overall minors of Fontys University of Applied Science. In your fourth year, you are a trainee in companies, or you participate in productions at home or abroad. You can also spend your traineeship at a foreign school as exchange student.
