Studio showing: Jimena Paz

18 May 2009 - 18 May 2009
Admission Free

As part of Dance Ireland's International Exchange Programme with Movement Research NYC, dance artist in residence Jimena Paz will open her creative investigations to an informal studio presentation, followed by Q&A.

Currently Artist-in-Residence at Movement Research and Dance Theater Workshop's Outer/Space creative residency, Paz has been working in New York since 1996, founding XYZeta Projects in 2005. She is an MFA Fellowship candidate at Hollins University and a Guild Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner.

Paz has been showing her own work since 2001. Distinctions include a UNESCO International Dance Council prize for choreography and performance, professional training at La Scala in Milan and a two-year consecutive Antorchas Foundation Grant. She is a faculty member at Movement Research and Barnard College in NY and has been working as rehearsal director for the Liz Gerring Company since 2007.

This class will start on the floor, investigating basic components of movement in relation to the whole self. It will transition to standing in various ways, and new relations to gravity and space. The warm-up and phrase work will further explore this relational approach to movement, and how this underlying foundation influences the experience as a dynamic form.
